Octogenarian billionaire investor George Soros has been sued for $10 million by an alleged former Sugar Baby and former Brazilian soap star who said he broke his promise to buy her a luxury apartment on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Soros, worth a cool $14.5 billion, faces the lawsuit brought by Adriana Ferreyr, 28, who claims they dated for 5 years, during which time Soros promised to buy her apartments several times. Ferreyr filed her complaint with New York State Supreme Court in Manhattan.
Despite the 53 year age gap, the suit claims they had a fiery relationship; Ferreyr claims that on January 1, 2010, Soros promised to buy her an apartment worth $2 million two blocks from his home. However the pair broke up soon after but reconciled two months later, at which point, while laying in bed Soros told her that he had given the apartment to a new girlfriend, the lawsuit alleges.
The two broke into a heated altercation, in which Ferreyr claims Soros slapped her in the face and tried to choke her. He also threw a lamp that smashed on the floor leaving Ferreyr requiring stitches, the lawsuit continues.
Despite that the on-off Sugar couple relit the flame and once again on vacation in St Barts, Ferreyr alleges Soros promised to give her another apartment, only to renege again.
Ferreyr is seeking damages for fraud, infliction of emotional distress, assault and battery and other claims.
William Zabel, Soros’s attorney, called the lawsuit frivolous, without merit and said he will seek dismissal.
“Mr. Soros did have an on-again, off-again and nonexclusive relationship with Ms. Ferreyr,” Zabel said in a statement. “The proposed complaint is riddled with false charges and is obviously an attempt to extract money from my client who is known to be a very wealthy man.”
Zabel also said police investigated the August 2010 incident and found that no assault occurred.
“George Soros did not slap, choke or throw a lamp at her,” he said.
Ferreyr is no stranger to money though – she is the daughter of a Brazilian real estate developer and engineer. Her great-grandfather, Esmeraldo Borges Nery, was the biggest landowner and rancher in the city of Iguai in Bahia, Brazil.
