Michael Douglas, 69, split from 44-year-old Catherine Zeta-Jones, 44, in August 2013. They recently reunited, with Douglas feeling positive that the break gave him the time he needed to think where he went wrong in his marriage. In an interview with People magazine, Douglas shared his thoughts about what it takes to truly make a marriage successful. He also highlighted one of the biggest reasons Sugar Daddy/Sugar Baby relationships actually work better than conventional unions.
“A lot of it has to do with age,” the actor said. “When you’ve accomplished a certain amount in your career, you’re not so focused on your ambitions. It makes you appreciate—and hopefully you do that sooner rather than later—the value of your partner.”
The value of a younger woman dating a successful older man lies in his accomplishments; whereas a younger man might be focussed on building his career, a Sugar Daddy has been there and done that, which gives him more time to dedicate to his companion. It more often than not results in a healthier, more stable long-term relationship, as both partners can annoy the fruits of his labor.
“Like a lovely orchid, or anything else that’s nurtured, marriage prospers and grows, but if it’s ignored, it withers,” said Douglas. “I’m more and more prone to tell kids just about everything. They know everything. I would err on the side of pretty much sharing everything. They can digest it.”
That includes being honest with them when it comes to cross-generational dating.
